Kyle Michael Krawczyk, 25, wasn’t feeling heavenly on Sunday, April 16, when he threatened several church-goers while spewing hate inside a church in the 5100 lock of Leonardtown Road in Waldorf.
The incident happened shortly before 9:15 a.m. on Sunday as members of the church were setting up for a service.
Several of the victims, who were familiar with Krawczyk, were able to talk Krawczyk off the ledge and he agreed to leave the church and go outside, while 911 was called and members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office arrived.
Deputies were pointed toward a wooded area by parishioners, where they spotted Krawczyk attempting to flee the area. They were able to ultimately track him down in the woods and he was apprehended without further incident with an 18-inch machete strapped to his chest.
Krawczyk, who has no fixed address, was charged with:
- First-degree assault;
- Racial/religious crimes against a group;
- Reckless endangerment;
- “Other related charges.”
He made his initial court appearance on Monday, April 17, and a judge ordered him be held without bond.
